On August 7, 2026, the Construction Consultation Joint Stock Company for Maritime Building (CMB) solemnly held its 60th Anniversary Celebration (August 8, 1966 – August 8, 2026). This is an event of special significance for generations of CMB officers, employees, and workers, marking a 60-year journey of development and growth, and serving as an occasion for generations to look back at memorable milestones, express gratitude to past leadership and workers, and affirm the determination to lead CMB into a new phase of development.
Attending the program were representatives of the leadership of the Vietnam Maritime Corporation; former leaders of CMB through various periods; retired officers of the Company through various periods; the Company’s Board of Directors; and all officers, employees, workers, and their families.
Delivering the opening speech, Mr. Pham Trung Kien, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Board of Directors, emphasized that CMB was born under special circumstances for the country and the Vietnam maritime industry. On August 8, 1966, the Ministry of Transport issued Decision No. 1200/QD to establish the Survey and Design Team under the Department of Marine Transport – the predecessor of today’s CMB. At that time, the Company had only about 30 officers and engineers; physical facilities and technical equipment were extremely scarce. But it was precisely in those difficult conditions that the most precious qualities of CMB people were formed: the will to overcome challenges, the spirit of solidarity, and responsibility toward work and the country.
A special milestone in the company’s development journey was the year 2004 – when CMB transformed from a State-owned enterprise to a joint-stock company model. This was not merely a change in organizational model; it was a shift in management thinking, operational mechanisms, and responsibility toward the market.
In addition to impressive production and business results, CMB has built a professional brand. A brand created by product quality and dedication to customers, this is the foundation for the core values that CMB always upholds: Dedication – Creativity – Synergy – Integrity. This is also the culture we consistently pursue: A customer-centric and employee-centric culture. Looking at CMB today, the achievements that generations have cultivated together are even clearer. From a Survey and Design Team with about 30 officers and engineers, CMB now has nearly 250 officers and engineers, with an increasingly diverse and comprehensive professional structure ranging from port and waterway, dry port, to investment consultancy for transport infrastructure, technical infrastructure, logistics centers, and economic-defense projects, contributing to ensuring national defense, security, and sovereignty at sea.
The noble awards bestowed by the Party and State upon CMB – including the Second and Third Class Independence Orders; First, Second, and Third Class Labor Orders; Emulation Flags from the Government; Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister; and various certificates and recognition from agencies and project owners – are a great honor and also a responsibility for today’s generations to continue that tradition. 60 years is a time to look back, but not to stop. The world is changing very rapidly; projects are becoming larger and more complex; requirements regarding quality, schedule, environment, safety, and efficiency are increasingly high. Digital technology, artificial intelligence, BIM, big data, and automation are profoundly changing the way projects are surveyed, designed, managed, and operated.
In that context, the most important question for CMB is not: “What have we achieved in the past 60 years?” But rather: “What will CMB achieve in the next 10, 20, 30 years?” Answering that question must start from a principle: To go far, one must first build sufficient internal strength. Therefore, in the coming period, CMB will focus on four strategic pillars: Building a team of leading industry experts while creating a generation of young engineers capable of receiving and developing the achievements left by previous generations; continuing to consolidate the basic scientific foundation; taking science, technology, and innovation as the driving force for growth; and promoting digital transformation in a substantive manner.
In the new journey, every CMB officer will continue to uphold the spirit of previous generations: Dedication in work; Creativity in thinking; Synergy in action; Integrity in profession. One of the most emotional parts of the Anniversary Celebration was the sharing session by former leaders of the Company through various periods. There were times when the Company had to face many market fluctuations, difficulties in production and business activities, and the requirements for innovation to adapt to each period. Through the shared stories, the image of CMB in the years gone by appeared with many hardships but also full of enthusiasm. It was a period when working conditions were limited, and equipment and technology were not as developed as today, but the sense of responsibility and passion for the profession of the team of officers, engineers, and workers was always a source of motivation to complete tasks. The solidarity, consensus, and determination of the collective became the important factor helping CMB overcome challenges, maintain operations, and gradually develop. It is a lesson about perseverance in the face of difficulties, the spirit of daring to think and do, the work ethnic, and above all, the spirit of solidarity – a value that has been preserved throughout the 60 years of CMB’s development. Embracing the enduring tradition of honoring our roots and those who came before us, the Company’s leadership organized a special tribute ceremony at the anniversary celebration to honor former leaders across different periods and express its profound gratitude for their invaluable contributions to the Company’s development.
A special highlight at the Anniversary Celebration was the honor of CMB being awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister for its outstanding achievements in production and business activities; consultancy for the construction of defense projects contributing to socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security.
At the program, CMB officially announced its new Website, Management System, and Mobile App. This is an important milestone demonstrating the determination to innovate, apply science and technology, and build a more professional, accurate, creative, and productive CMB. Putting these digital platforms into operation is not just a change in technology but also a shift in the Company’s management, operational, and service delivery methods; it contributes to strengthening connections with customers, partners, and employees.
Looking back at the 60-year journey, CMB has every reason to be proud of what generations have built together. But above all, the 60-year milestone is a reminder of the responsibility to carry that legacy forward. Today’s achievements were built on the foundations laid by previous generations; tomorrow’s successes will begin with the efforts of the present generation. Entering a new chapter, CMB continues to define innovation, science and technology, digital transformation, improving human resource quality, and customer-centricity as key factors to enhance competitiveness and sustainable development. With a 60-year foundation, a tradition of solidarity and a sense of responsibility, along with a team of experienced officers, engineers, and experts combined with the youth and desire for innovation of the new generation, CMB is confident it will continue to move forward steadily, continue to innovate, and continue to reach further.
